Black Filter Syndrome
It’s a problem most vehicle managers aren’t even aware of. But it’s real. It’s costly. And it’s
something you should check for and remedy as soon as possible.
Today’s ultra-low sulphur diesel fuel (ULSD) is used with modern high-pressure injection
systems, the fuel can “cook”— causing carbon and other chemical deposits to become trapped in
fuel filters and injection systems, requiring more throttle, more fuel, and shortening the life of
engines, fuel injection parts and filters.
These moderate to severe deposits also find their way into internal injector parts, fuel passages,
even valves and piston rings — causing problems that can lead to more frequent repairs and higher
maintenance costs.
